The name “Spirit of Place” came from a collection of essays chronicling the travels of author, Lawrence Durrell. This name perfectly invokes what I am passionate about achieving for each client - a home reflecting the spirit of its owners and that leaves an indelible imprint on the memory.

My name is Marnie Backer and I am the principal of Spirit of Place design. My love of interior design started as a child perusing my grandmother’s Architectural Digest magazines and asking her about the late designer, Billy Baldwin. This love was solidified through a major career shift, formal education in design, and creating this firm. I look forward to learning about you and reflecting your spirit in your home or any other space of importance to you.
